Warm weather across PH; danger level heat indices forecast in 39 areas

Warm and humid weather will prevail across the country on Thursday, with at least 39 areas likely to experience danger level heat indices, the weather bureau said.

“Because of the effects of El Niño, we expect the country to experience warm and humid weather. Isolated rain showers are likely in the afternoon or evening,” Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The temperature in Metro Manila and Tuguegarao could peak at 37°C.

As for the heat index, the highest is at 48°C in Pili, Camarines Sur, while a 47°C heat index is expected in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Heat indices or what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air, ranging from 42°C to 46°C are forecast in the following areas:

Bacnotan, La Union – 44°C
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 44°C
Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City – 44°C

Roxas City, Capiz – 44°C
Iloilo City, Iloilo – 44°C
Dumangas, Iloilo – 44°C
Catarman, Northern Samar – 44°C
NAIA – 43°C
Aparri, Cagayan – 43°C
Iba, Zambales – 43°C
Casiguran, Aurora – 43°C
Coron, Palawan – 43°C
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 43°C

PAGASA said that under danger level or 41°C to 51°C heat indices, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely. Continued exposure to the sun could also cause heat stroke.

Meanwhile, the whole archipelago will experience fair weather due to the easterlies.

The easterlies and localized thunderstorms will also cause isolated rain showers.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the country, PAGASA said. (PNA)
