Warning on language training centers

NEWS ADVISORY

22 February 2019

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration advises applicants for overseas jobs to be wary of training centers that are taking advantage of overseas jobs facilitated by its government-to-government hiring facility which require passing language tests.

The POEA has been receiving reports that some of these institutions are enticing workers to enroll in their schools with guarantee of passing the Korean language and skills tests and inclusion in the roster of qualified workers for Korea’s Employment Permit System.

The Administration does not accredit, enter into partnership nor is in any way connected with language training centers.  A training center has no license to recruit Filipino workers and its acts of advertising overseas job vacancies and promising employment to enrollees are considered illegal recruitment.

The POEA advises applicants to only enroll in training centers with language programs or courses registered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The public are also advised to be more cautious of any suspicious recruitment activities whether committed in person or using social media platforms and to report the same to the POEA Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch at 722-11-92 or at POEA hotline numbers 722-11-44 or 722-11-55.
